Where Can I Run?

Tips for Parents and Teachers to further engage readers and listeners.

How might you run if you were an animal?

Ask the child/children to draw a picture of themselves as an animal running in a silly way.

Take Echo Flaps the bat for example. She isn't all that used to running on two feet, so she's a bit clumsy and wobbly, since she spends most of her time either flying or riding around on one of her friend's heads.

What else happened to Lucky?

Spend a little extra time on the baseball scene, notice how Simon Slithers is being used as a bat?

It's okay! Simon is well protected in his pads and helmet.

How else might Simon enjoy unconventional 'Simon' ways of playing with his friends? Ask the child/children to draw or act it out.

Where else can Sam run?

Ask the child/children to come up with other places Sam could run! Perhaps Sam could run in the woods! Would it be a safe place with all those things to maybe trip over? Or perhaps Sam could run on the beach where it's nice and safe with plenty of room.

Play a simple game

(Parents can play along in place of children if you wish)

Divide the children into groups. Have one child be Sam to start with and have the other children be whatever characters, (or themselves or their own characters). Each group will be asked to come up with a place Sam can either run or not run.

Have the children make pretend bandages and decorate them. Each child could lie down on a large piece of paper and have their outline drawn around, colored and then cut out. The children can then have fun coming up with

various ways they could have their pretend owies be bandaged and various stories of how it happened.

What was Lucky doing before the baseball game?

Ask the child/children to draw or talk about what they think Lucky Notso was getting up to before the baseball game and maybe even after the campfire scene.

Maybe Lucky was at the library picking out a new book to read. Or maybe he was playing with his frineds before.

Let the kids make up their own before or after story with Lucky.
